Taf Coffee, founded in Exarchia by the Taloumis family, is widely credited as the pioneer of Greek specialty coffee, opening its roastery-cafe in 2009. Samba Coffee Roasters in Kolonaki has been roasting since 1979 and is now run by the second generation, with Head Roaster Nikos Antzaras winning the 2022 Hellenic Barista Championship. The Underdog in Thissio has been roasting since 2011 and holds multiple Hellenic and World championship placings. The scene spans Kolonaki, Exarchia, Syntagma, Psyrri, Thissio and Koukaki.
