Independent coffee & cake in Bristol

Bristol earns its reputation as a coffee city through roasters who run their own counters and independents who keep the supply local. Several names on this list roast their own beans, from Wogan, a third-generation family roastery near Stokes Croft, to the micro-batch operation Lost Horizon in a church crypt, and Triple Co Roast on its restored Probat in Montpelier. Many of the cafes that do not roast still pour Bristol beans, with Clifton Coffee Roasters and St Werburgh's-based Extract supplying counters across the city.

Cake and bakes sit right alongside the coffee here. Wapping Wharf has Mokoko baking viennoiserie and sourdough on site and Little Victories serving slices from Hart's Bakery. Over in Bedminster and Southville, North Street strings together Sweven, Tincan and Albatross, while Clifton has the plant-filled Foliage and the bakery-led Bakesmiths on Whiteladies Road. Most of these places are small, owner-run and walkable within their neighbourhoods.
