The cup

Widely regarded as the first specialty coffee bar in Madrid, Toma opened in 2011 at Calle de la Palma 49 in Malasaña, founded by Argentine coffee professionals Santi Rigoni and Patricia Alda. The original single room has expanded to three neighbourhood locations and the company now operates its own roastery and training centre nearby; the Palma bar's early commitment to transparent sourcing and coffee education helped establish Malasaña as the heart of Madrid's third-wave scene. Roasts its own coffee.
