The cup
Founded in 2005 by Guatemalan-born Gloria Montenegro at 52 rue de l'Hôtel de Ville, La Caféothèque is widely regarded as the original specialty coffee bar in Paris; the shop stocks single-origin beans from Guatemala, Colombia, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya and El Salvador along its front wall. Montenegro opened a barista school on the premises in 2011 and both the cafe and school remain under her ownership.
